We have really been struggling to learn to read, so I finally gave in and purchased All About Reading. It is a great curriculum that encompasses all learning styles and we are making slow progress. Consistency is the key.
We have stopped all Sonlight, except for the read-alouds. I figure that we need to get the 3 R's down before we continue.
One day last week I started a chant to try and get Eli to try and memorize his vowels. A-E-I-O-U, I didn't worry about sometime Y.
About 30 minutes after we practiced our vowels, I asked Eli, "What are the vowels?"
Eli: A-E-I love you.
I guess we need more work on those, but what a sweet sentiment.
